Bươm bướm – Anna Tran’s First Fashion Show as a Celebration of Feminine Transformation
On Saturday, November 8, the Husův sbor church in Prague’s Dejvice district turned into a place of wonder. Czech designer Anna Tran presented her very first fashion show – personal, ethereal, and profoundly emotional. The gothic church became a magical runway where fashion, music, and spiritual atmosphere intertwined in perfect harmony.
The evening was accompanied by live music – a mesmerizing fusion of Theo Alexandra’s organ performance and Terry’s singing, which elevated the entire experience. Alongside the stunning gowns, the models also wore Swarovski jewelry, adding a final sparkle – the cherry on top of an already captivating event.
What personally struck me the most was the diversity – in materials, silhouettes, and the models themselves.
The collection features fourteen looks, characterized by lightness and airiness, almost ethereal in nature. Yet, darker tones made their appearance too – a surprising twist for those familiar with Anna’s previous work.
A Story of Transformation
The collection is titled Bươm bướm.
“It’s a story of a woman. The collection reflects the growth and transformation from girlhood into womanhood. It’s about finding one’s voice, inner strength, and self-acceptance,” explains Anna Tran, who infused the project with her own experiences and cultural heritage.
The name itself carries a double meaning. In Vietnamese, bươm bướm means not only butterfly but also vulva – a playful, intimate symbol of femininity. This duality – fragility and strength, tenderness and wildness – runs through the entire collection. Bươm bướm tells the story of a woman’s transformation, from softness and vulnerability to confidence and sensuality.
Through her designs, Anna reflects on her experience of growing up in a patriarchal environment and her search for identity between two cultures. Instead of division, she finds harmony – perceiving sensitivity as a source of power.
Ethereal Lightness and Feminine Strength
The collection features delicate fabrics such as organza and chiffon, whose smocking creates a fluid, airy effect. In motion, the garments resemble fluttering butterflies or blossoming flowers – beautiful and gentle, yet powerful and sharp. The color palette gradually shifts from soft tones to deeper, more sensual shades, symbolizing the process of growth and transformation.
Anna Tran – Between Two Worlds
Anna was born in Vietnam, and when she was three years old, her parents decided to move to the Czech Republic, settling in Moravia. While her parents worked, she was often looked after by an elderly lady she lovingly called “grandma.” She would take Anna to the forest, read her children’s stories, and build tiny woodland houses together. That sense of poetic nature and quiet magic remains deeply woven into Anna’s aesthetics – delicate, dreamy, almost fairy-like.
Her parents supported her artistic path, even though they also encouraged her to achieve academically. After finishing high school, Anna attended a vocational art college and later continued her studies at UMPRUM in Prague. This was followed by an internship in Iceland, and in 2020, she launched her own brand, Anna Tran.
Since then, her name has appeared in prestigious fashion magazines such as Vogue, and she has built a strong, inspiring community around her work – mainly of young women who see her as both muse and mentor. Her signature piece, the puffy bag, perfectly captures her essence – soft yet strong, feminine yet bold.
