Prague Fairytales

as told through the impeccable design of Andaz Prague

Imagine staying at a hotel that tells you a story, the legends and the myths of the place you are visiting for the first time.

You are immersed in the culture and the soul of the place before even going outside to explore it.

This was the goal of Andaz Hotel Prague that depicts the history of the capital in its unique design unveiling Prague stories in the finest of details. Czech patterns, glass elements and terrazzo floors.

Hotel Andaz is full of permanent art works of local and international artists telling Prague stories. Let’s explore Andaz Prague together.

We begin with going back in time as we approach the hotel.

The building is part of cultural monuments and was previously a bank (Investiční a poštovní banka). Some parts of the bank still remain in the design and are integrated in the hotel aesthetics, respecting the historical heritage.

As you enter Andaz Prague you walk under hanging glass shapes reminding by its form of old clay vessels. This installation by Vendulka Prachlova is symbolizing the Astronomical Clock at the Old Town Square. The vessels represent the flow of time that gives them new meaning.

The first thing you see when you enter Andaz Prague is the large “Golden Lane” sculpture created by Miguel Rodrigez. Art piece is inspired by the love story of Libuše (Czech mythical princess that according to the legend founded Prague). Golden lane shows a link between the princess and a peasant - union of two different worlds. It also depicts the power of alchemy and copper coming from raw materials.

On the ceiling of the Mez bar is an illustration by Barbora Idesová inspired by the story of Libuše. Artist paints a story of a strong female in a modern and quirky way.

You can meet with Libuše in the hallways of the hotel and see how she envisioned the foundation of the city of Prague. She predicted Prague’s fame reaching the stars. You can also see Libuše reaching for a star at the head of the bed in one of the rooms

At the reception corridor you move into the “Walk of Myths” by Livia Marin. The passage is filled with puzzles illustrating Prague’s present and past.

This art piece is uniting various languages and images of different origins, just like modern Prague.

The Story of Bruncvík and his Faithful Lion is another legend that Andaz draws inspiration from. You can see the sign of Bruncvík and his lion as you go to your room with the blue carpet of the hallways representing the Vltava river.

There is also a Lion to guard your sweet dreams………….

The story of Prague won’t be complete without mentioning the famous writer, Franz Kafka. An Illustration of Franz Kafka and Charles Bridge by Jakub Tykadlo portrays Kafka’s motives together with Prague architectural details.

The next sight of historical importance is the Strahov Monastery library. You will find an art piece by Seoung Park in the lounge paying its respect to “TEXTUS” (which means fabrics in Latin), the origin of “text”. The artist is deconstructing photographs and putting them back together. The piece is inviting the viewer into the warmth of memories.

Enchanting and mystical, Prague essence is truly celebrated and beautifully portrayed by Andaz Prague.

As part of Czech culture celebration, you will also be able to get to know local brands and talents presented at the hotel.

Andaz also pays a tribute to the Czech art scene in its monthly art seminars hosted by DSC gallery as part of Andaz Art Institute. Each month a new art topic is explored by DSC gallery curators. Art Institute is a year-long program but you are also welcome to join individual lectures at your convenience. Held both in Czech and English.
