WE’RE NEXT’25

WE’RE NEXT turned 10 this year which marked 10 years of celebrating young fashion and culture shaping the future of the industry. MAGPAPER has attended Day 1 and gathered some insights. WE’RE NEXT’25 took place over 2 days in the second week of September in the newly opened, Roztyly Plaza. The goal of WE’RE NEXT festival has always been to open doors and give a spotlight to young talents from the Czech Republic and abroad. This year's edition was no exception.  Day 1 was dedicated to established designers and had four runway shows of international creatives.

Myus - Coming of Age

The collection is inspired by the boarding school in France, adolescence and the way rebellious young minds are breaking the rules and reshaping reality. We saw how items we associate with school uniforms can be worn and translated in a different way - asymmetrical collars, deconstructed skirts, part of which is a blazer, voluminous constructions of tops and vests. We loved the colour palette and material clash, we saw kilt-like motives of dark blue and brown, lace dresses and butter yellow sets. All was also beautifully complimented by the edgy braided hair styles and details like colourful tights, golden pins and neck bows.

Jade by Jaden Li - love letters to the unknown

The collection was inspired by the break up of the designer in the search to understand the feelings of the broken heart. This event is being displayed as the opportunity to learn and grow from it.
The pieces were a combination of vintage/pre-owned items that already held some memories but were there to be transformed into something new. Some items hold nostalgic value to the designer which made this collection even more personal. The looks were avant-garde, exaggerated and unapologetic. We saw an explosion of colours, shapes and structures taking a new form of expression and connecting items from different worlds. The show ended with a performance where the water was thrown at one of the models changing the colour of the dress.  Jade by Jaden Li is the winner of the REFRESHER ART PRIZE - congratulations!

Maja Pilarek supported by Xiaomi - ECHOES

ECHOES was inspired by the designer's region, Silesia, Poland. The region that might not come out as picturesque at first, can be a beautiful place as well if you find a way to celebrate its individuality.  The designs were resembling the essence of local heritage, folk costumes and stereotypes but portrayed in a new modern way. We saw a great knit work, colours and prints, bold use of shapes in garments and quirky accessories. Looks showed a mix of a wide variety of material too. We had jean sets, knits, net cover up, lace cap and a top with beads. Wearable pieces presented in a creative way. The playful mode of the show was perfectly wrapped by the designer appearing on the scooter with one of the models at the end of the catwalk.

Miss Bos - Miss the Presence of the Absence

The name of the collection, the Presence of the Absence, has a melancholic idea - longing for someone or something you know you can never experience again. It is the story of memories from the past, present and future searching for a new beginning. The idea of “absence” per se is beautifully represented by face cover ups as if showing that models are here but we can’t see them (their faces). Dramatic shapes and exaggerated silhouettes created an overall grand effect. We saw sheer tulle moments as capes, cover ups or as the whole garment of its own, oversized coats and furs, beautiful drapes and even a colourful burst of feathers. Lots of work on creating new forms and stitching pieces, not to mention a butterfly-like transparent look.
